Tata Electronics has announced a strategic partnership with Tokyo Electron (TEL) to develop semiconductor equipment infrastructure for its fabrication unit in Dholera, Gujarat, and its assembly and test facility in Jagiroad, Assam. This collaboration aims to strengthen Tata Electronics’ capabilities in chip manufacturing and assembly, crucial for establishing India’s semiconductor ecosystem.

The partnership will enable Tata Electronics to leverage TEL’s expertise in semiconductor equipment to enhance its fabrication processes and technology. TEL will also focus on training Tata Electronics’ workforce to handle its specialized equipment and support ongoing research and development initiatives.

Randhir Thakur, Managing Director & CEO of Tata Electronics, highlighted the company’s ambition, stating, “We have a bold vision of becoming a leader in electronics manufacturing by offering integrated solutions across the value chain to our global customers.” He further emphasized TEL’s reputation for close customer collaboration and its vital role in building an ecosystem that ensures the timely establishment of Tata’s fabrication and advanced packaging factories.

Tata Electronics is investing ₹91,000 crore in establishing India’s first semiconductor chip fabrication unit in Dholera, Gujarat. Additionally, ₹27,000 crore will be allocated for a greenfield assembly and testing facility in Jagiroad, Assam.

The two facilities will produce semiconductor chips catering to diverse applications, including automotive, mobile devices, artificial intelligence (AI), and other key sectors, aiming to serve customers worldwide. This initiative is expected to significantly contribute to India’s goal of becoming a global hub for semiconductor manufacturing.
