The Union government is executing a major structural overhaul to transition the nation’s frontier strategy from a reactive framework to a proactive, technology-driven monitoring model. Addressing the first-ever Land Border Districts’ Superintendents of Police Conference 2026 in New Delhi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah explained that the government’s border security policy rests on three foundational pillars — “Secure Borders, Prosperous Frontiers and an Aware Society.”
This collaborative model integrates artificial intelligence, drone defense arrays, and smart sensors into a unified system. Shah directed regional police chiefs to immediately flag abnormal population growth at the grassroots level, stressing that the Centre will apply a “ruthless approach” against unauthorized shifts caused by migration. To stabilize vulnerable corridors, the government is rapidly advancing a ₹31,000 crore project to fence the 1,610-km India-Myanmar border. The initiative is backed by a 400 percent investment surge in physical infrastructure, including strategic roads and tunnels, alongside socio-economic funding under the Vibrant Villages Programme to curb migration.
Emphasizing the shift away from isolated border checkposts, Shah stated, “Earlier, problems remained permanent while solutions were temporary. Our government is working to address problems at their roots and provide permanent solutions.”
