In a strategic move ahead of the 2027 Punjab assembly elections, senior BJP leader Tarun Chugh met with popular singer Honey Singh to launch a collaborative public appeal against the state’s growing substance abuse crisis. Honey Singh, who has been publicly transparent about his multi-year battle with alcohol and cannabis dependency, joined Chugh in a video message delivered in Punjabi to address the devastating impact of synthetic narcotics like ‘chitta’ (heroin). The singer noted, “I came to Tarun ji today to share with him what is happening to Punjab, especially because of ‘chitta’ (heroin).”
Chugh, the BJP’s national general secretary, praised the artist’s recovery as a powerful blueprint for vulnerable youth, stating, “Based on his life experience, if Honey Singh can come out of that quagmire (of addiction), every child of Punjab can come out.” He urged the musician to use his massive cultural influence to guide the youth away from narcotics.
The high-profile meeting carries significant political undertones as the BJP intensifies its organizational focus on AAP-ruled Punjab. While Honey Singh has not formally joined the political party, the high-profile alliance leverages his massive reach to address regional socio-political issues.
