Why You Shouldn’t Buy 5G Phone In 2019

Why you shouldn’t buy 5g phone now, well it’s a piece of very logical advice. but let’s see what made us tell you that. The biggest reason why you should wait for next year to splurge on a 5G phone is simply the networks. Wireless carriers are still in the early stage of making their 5G networks. Furthermore, they’re not close to being wide enough to be useful. But hopefully, everything will be ready by 2020.

5G network isn’t ready yet

All four wireless carriers of the U.S. have launched their 5G networks. However, unless you live in one of the major metropolitan areas where Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint have initiated it, you will not catch a 5G signal anywhere. Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile’s early 5G rollout use short-range, high-frequency millimeter-wave technology. That delivers blazing fast speeds indeed. however, you have to stand almost directly in the line of sight of a 5G node to get anywhere near 1 Gbps download speed.

Sprint’s mid-band 5G network is currently live in Dallas-Fort Worth, Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, and Kansas City. It also uses lower frequencies with a wider range. But the speed is nowhere near as fast as the mmWave-based 5G that Sprint’s competitors have launched. That’s a reason, why you shouldn’t buy a 5g phone.

5G phones are too hot

For instance, Samsung Galaxy S10 5G gets too hot to use after any intensive activity over the 5G network. That’s reasonable too. the hardware is also in the initial stage. Its a matter of concern whether the speed provided by the network carriers match with the speed of the hardware. You will be surprised to know that, only a few minutes of 5g use can be made the flagship phone too hot.

5G phones are also expensive

The recent lineup of 5G smartphones available in the U.S. is limited to two: the $1,299 Samsung Galaxy S10 5G and the $1,152 LG V50 ThinQ 5G. Quite expensive! Especially, while the hardware, as well as the network, aren’t ready with full potential.

While launching, the LG V50 ThinQ cost $50 more than Apple’s iPhone XS Max. Thus it was too costly for a phone with just one attracting feature, 5G. Furthermore one also have to sign up for Sprint’s installment plan to pay off the phone when it launched as an exclusive through Sprint.

Next year, in 2020, buyers will get more options than just one or two models from Samsung and LG indeed. Furthermore, Apple is targeting September 2020 for the launch of a 5G iPhone. Hopefully, that 5G iPhone will be better than other 5G phones. And after 2020, hopefully, 5G devices won’t stay expensive. that’s why you shouldn’t buy a 5g phone.

IDC mobile analyst Ramon Llamas said that if you look at 2021 and beyond, that price has to come down. And added, It is in the carriers’ best interest to get many people off 4G and onto 5G.

5G phones aren’t future-proofed yet

Currently, 5G devices in stores are using Qualcomm’s X50 modem. But Qualcomm has a new 5G modem, the X55. it is capable of connecting to a variety of networks, for instance, mmWave and sub-6Ghz 5G frequencies as well as 4G LTE simultaneously. Furthermore, X50 requires a separate modem to hand off to 4G. Consequently, it isn’t as efficient.

The X55 will pop up in 5G phones at the end of 2K19 when the Galaxy Note 10 5G goes on sale at T-Mobile and AT&T. 2020’s Android flagships will almost certainly have Qualcomm’s cutting-edge Snapdragon 865 processor as well as the X55 modem, so there’s no reason to buy outdated 5G phones in 2019.

You must check 5G is coming, but many people are opposing it.

Take away

It depends on your priorities whether you want a 5g phone this year or not. If you want to experience technological innovation at the forefront? or you have a lot of money to spend? or you live in a city where your network carrier has started 5G service, then certainly go fetch a 5G ready flagship.

But most of the people don’t wanna taste innovation before it’s useful in their everyday lives. and the harsh truth is 5G isn’t there yet. Certainly, faster speed will bring a change in the future. But right now, not so much.

IDC’s Llamas asked if is it going to be all that noticeable. and added specially when you have the ubiquity of Wi-Fi connectivity everywhere you go, do you want to use up your data on a 5G network? you have got enough reasons, why you shouldn’t buy a 5g phone.
