Elon Musk is conscious about the cost of SpaceX’s reusable Starship. He announced that each mission will be costing $2 million. Earlier missions were costing a bit more than the Starship but lesser than the one of the competitors.
In order to cut down the cost, Musk revealed that the use of stainless steel instead of carbon fiber has helped them to reduce the cost. His ideology of making space reachable and affordable at the same time makes complete sense.
Starship to cost less than a tiny rocketÂ
The ability to reuse has made the rocket very cost-effective, and new changes in the design have made it more able. Falcon 9 and heavy were used many times to deliver payloads into space.
Musk said Starship is more reusable and will cost “much less than even a tiny rocket.” He said each mission will cost down to $2 million, inclusive of fuel cost and operational cost. He said this while speaking at the U.S Air Force’s annual pitch day in Los Angeles.
The SpaceX founder explained the world about the importance of rapidly reusable rockets in terms of having an affordable space journey. The aim of the company is to settle people at Mars, Moon, and other destinations.
It can go to the Lunar Orbit and even beyond
Earlier, SpaceX quoted Starship as a fully reusable transportation system. It can deliver the crew and cargo to the Lunar Orbit and even ahead of it.
Starship will be paired with a Super Heavy rocket. The Super Heavy is still under construction. Together they can deliver up to 100 tonnes to the Earth’s orbit. It can also carry up to 100 passengers at a time.
What are the final details?
It is yet not clarified how much will the company charge for people traveling to space. If everything goes as planned, the company will launch its first mission in 2021. At first, the company will have a ‘ferry like trip’ for all passengers around the earth.
Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa has booked a trip to Moon which will fly around the year 2023. Doing all of this in around $2 million is indeed revolutionary and the company is able to manage it well.
Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy will be shut down as Starship is more feasible to deliver crew and payloads into space. The Starship Mk1 and prototype are undergoing tests within the Earth’s atmosphere for controlled landing and fight. The final launch will take place in 2020.
Wow! I am so enthusiastic to have such a trip to space. It’s proved here that human can do whatever he thinks right?
