Scientist Hope AI Might Help illuminate Dark Matter

Science is evolving day by day. A few years back, when the scientists got excited about the glow from the centre of the galaxy as a black hole, it was revealed as something different. It was found that it was just gas. When it was analyzed further, the glow was found to be from a profile of stars only. In the research paper, the team said that “When we examined the bright glow it was found to be originating from the stellar mass in the boxy and nuclear bulge. Stellar mass is preferred over conventional DM profiles which have high statistical significance”.

Research Of Bright Glow

The scientists were thinking that the dark matter was exploding gamma rays into our galaxy. If this was to be the case, the existence of the dark matter would have been proved and the mystery would have been solved. But, this is not the case. It was proved that the glow was due to the stars and that we need to find out more about the dark matter.

But one thing which was interesting to know is that the scientists used AI and Machine Learning for understanding the glow. They used Machine Learning for doing heavy lifts and demonstrate the scientific rigour which proved as the perfect explanation. They also created a Sky Factorization with Adaptive Constrained Templates (SkyFACT) to handle the problems. Another solution to the problem was recently suggested by a team of scientists from France/Switzerland border. They used gamma rays and AI to accelerate actual atoms.

The team did a fascinating job. They sped up the ionized atoms to a speed nearly equivalent to the speed of light. For the very first time, the atoms have been sped up to such a high speed. Previously, scientists were using proton and atomic nuclei but were not able to achieve it. However, the new discovery will help a lot in further projects. One more addition to this will be that the scientists will actually be able to create gamma rays. This has been impossible until now but the team might have found a way for it. With the help of this, we could get deep insights into the problems faced in physics.

Verdict

With all the development in research, all this has been possible only due to AI techniques. The team were able to produce a speed of one million gigabytes of data per second in the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Including AI, Deep Learning also helped the scientists to achieve this.

One of the team members, Kazuhiro Terao said that “Now, we are using Machine Learning in every field. It gives us options to find the solution of the questions which are unanswered. After a decade may be the Machine Learning will be developed enough to function independently and ask questions themselves.”. With the improving AI and ML technologies, the scientists might be able to solve the mystery of dark matter sooner than ever.
