Apple Offering Rs.3900 ($50) To Users Under Battery Replacement Program

Apple was surrounded with a controversy about iPhone’s battery issues. Now, Apple has announced that it will be providing Rs. 3900 or $50 to all the users who purchased out of the warranty battery for their iPhones. They launched the “iPhone out-of-warranty battery replacement credit” program. Apple has extended their iPhone Battery Replacement Program by adding the replacement credit program. Apple has said that they will be providing the compensation only to the iPhone 6 and above models. The batteries bought between January 1st, 2017 to December 28th, 2017 are eligible for the credit. Further, the batteries should be purchased at any of the Apple’s authorized service place. The authorized centers include Apple store, Apple repair center or Apple authorized service provider is eligible for the credit program.

What Actually Happened?

In 2017, Apple admitted that the latest iOs versions slowed down older iPhone models’ performance to avoid battery problems. When Apple was blamed, they announced the Battery Replacement Program. In the program, Apple was replacing the batteries at a cheaper rate of Rs.2000 rather than that of Rs.6000.

How To Get The Credits?

Apple Inc. said that they will be alerting all the customers who are eligible for the refunds through mail anytime between May to June of this year with the procedure on how to get the refund credits. The $50 credits will be provided as electronic funds transfer for battery replacement services. Apple said if the user is eligible for the credit but did not receive mail can contact the company directly. The users have to give proof of service at authorized locations during the month of December this year.

Conditions On The Apple’s Out Of Warranty Credit Program

Apple said they will be providing credits only to the batteries which were purchased out of warranty at service centers. The credit program will not offer credits for batteries replaced within the warranty. Further, if the battery was replaced at a non-Apple authorized service center, then the credits cannot be available. The models which come under this schemes are – iPhone 6, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 plus, iPhone SE, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 plus and iPhone X. Older iPhone models like iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c does not come under the credit program.

Apple Inc’s move to launch the “iPhone out-of-warranty battery replacement credit” is a brave move. It might help them regain the lost reputation when the company was blame to have slowed down the older iPhones. The scheme recovers the cost of the batteries which were purchased by the users under the Apple’s Battery Replacement Program. The company faced allegations from various users who were still using older iPhones forcing them to buy the newer models. By this move, Apple has handed out their support to the older models by making them efficient as before.
