The Internet has expanded quite a lot in the last few years. There are more than 4.5 billion websites which are indexed by the Search Engines. But, this number is just 1% of what is believed to exist. There are nearly 400 to 500 times websites available on the internet which are hidden from search engines. Those websites are not indexed by the Search Engines and are known as Deep Web. But, we access the deep web easily like when we check our emails. To access a deep web, the person should know the URL or should have permission to access them. They cannot be searched by Googling or any other search engines. Deep Web is similar to the normal websites just that they have a little layer of security with them. It includes the emails, our social media profiles and accessing the data which is accessible only after subscription.

Dark Web

Dark Web and Deep Web are not the same. They have far more protection than the Deep Web. They do not have DNS and IP address which is used to identify a website on the internet. Dark Web is anonymous websites which are encrypted. To access a Dark Web, the user needs a software which will mask their IP address thereby making it hard to be identified.

As the details go, Dark Web is mostly used for illegal activities. Silk Road, an online drugstore was recently shut down when it was discovered.  The website had 12,000 listings which sold everything from weed to heroin. Ross Ulbricht, the owner of Silk Road was arrested and was sentenced for life. Dark Web is mostly used by terrorists and illegal organizations to establish their presence on the internet. It has become a marketplace which generates nearly $500 million every day.

How Dangerous Is Dark Web?

Many times you would have clicked on a cute looking picture and end up seeing some horrifying images on the page that opens. The dark websites are often misused and are not what they appear to be. Through the dark web, anyone who has money can buy guns, drugs, cloned cards and all the illegals thing available in the world. They are not promoting the illegal marketplace but there are many software available which work just like Tor.  Tor helps the government in maintaining their privacy and secrecy. Though Dark Web is dangerous, they are important for the Government and Specialized organizations to protect their data.
