Jio Platform’s Q1 FY25 Results: Net Profit up by 12% QoQ, Operational Revenue nears Rs 30,000 Cr

Jio Platform’s net profit grew by 12% YoY to Rs 5,693 crore in Q1 FY25. While it went up by 2% QoQ from Rs 5,583 crore in the preceding quarter.

The revenue from operations increased by 13% YoY to Rs 29,449 crore in Q1 FY25. As compared to Q4 FY24, it grew by 2% from Rs 28,871 crore. For the same period, its EBITDA rose by 12% YoY to Rs 14,638 crore while its EBITDA margin was noted at 49.7%, showing a 50 basis point decline.

The total expenses were noted at Rs 19,266 crore, with network expenses contributing Rs 7,923 crore, and license fee & spectrum charges adding Rs 2,433 crore. The cost for sales and distribution jumped by 14% QoQ to Rs 804 crore, because of the heightened focus on promotions. Additionally, Rs 1,101 crore to the cost were added by finance costs that indicated a 10% increase.

JPL (Jio Platforms Limited) was established in October 2019 and hosts digital properties and investments of Reliance Jio Infocomm. The latter’s net profit increased by 11% YoY and 2% QoQ to Rs 5,445 crore in Q1 FY25 while its operating revenue jumped by 10% YoY and 2% QoQ to Rs 26,478 crore in the quarter under review.

For the June quarter, the platform’s customer count widened by 9% YoY from 44.85 crore to 48.97 crore while it was 48.18 crore for the preceding quarter. With 8 million additions in the net subscribers for the quarter, 5G subscriber count stood at 130 million which is 31% of the platform’s wireless data traffic.

The expansion of Jio’s 5G services in addition to increased consumption by users of Jio AirFiber resulted in a 5.6% QoQ jump in the per capita data which stood at 30.3 GB. In the June quarter, the home broadband service added 1.1 million net subscribers.

Data and voice engagement levels grew by 32.8% and 6.6% YoY, respectively. The consumption of voice services dropped from 1.44 trillion minutes in Q4 FY24 to 1.42 trillion minutes in Q1 FY25 while the consumption of wireless data grew from 40.9 billion GB to 44.1 billion GB in the given period. In terms of data traffic on a global level, the company claimed to have become the largest operator.

Average revenue per user (ARPU) for Q1 FY25 remained the same at Rs 181.7 but showed marginal YoY growth from Rs 180.5 per month.

Earlier in June, Jio had initiated the hike in tariffs for its prepaid and postpaid plans by 13% to 25% respectively.
