Althion, an innovative water-tech startup based in Hyderabad, has raised Rs 3.6 crore in a pre-Series A funding round. The round was led by BioAngels, powered by the Indian Angel Network (IAN) Group, with additional participation from investors Arun Seth, Om Manchanda, KNK Venkatraman, and Shubham Rastogi.

This fresh funding follows an earlier investment of $180K raised from C-CAMP and other partners. The company is set to utilize this capital to pilot the manufacture of 40 units of its cutting-edge tabletop laboratory water purification system, which will be aimed at addressing the high cost of solutions in healthcare.

The funds will also support ongoing R&D efforts to improve products that enhance the efficiency and sustainability of kidney dialysis, a vital treatment across India. Althion plans to use the money to establish a larger facility to scale operations and meet growing demand.

Founded in 2017 by Surya Rao, Althion specializes in ultra-pure water systems that serve critical industries such as healthcare, biotechnology, and semiconductors.

Althion’s proprietary Althion Remote Monitoring System (ARMS) enables predictive and preventive maintenance, which strengthens its competitive edge in the water purification market. The company already works with top-tier institutions, including Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Homi Bhabha Memorial Cancer Centre, Narayana Hrudayalaya, and Nephroplus centres across India.

Althion’s products are supported by grants from BIRAC and have received seed funding from C-CAMP Bangalore and AIC CCMB Hyderabad. Furthermore, Althion has secured approval for funding toward CE marking and USFDA certifications, which will open doors to international markets, including Latin America, Africa, and Asia.
