Goat Brand Labs, an e-commerce roll-up firm based in Bengaluru, has secured $21 million in a recent funding round from investors including BlackRock, Mayfield, NB Ventures, and others. The round, expected to close at $30 million, marks the company’s return to fundraising after a hiatus of over two years.
The fresh capital infusion will be primarily directed towards accelerating the growth of GOAT Brand Labs’ portfolio brands such as Chumbak, trueBrowns, The Label Life, and others including Pepe Jeans Inner Fashion, Voylla, Petcrux, and Nutriglow.
GOAT Brand Labs operates as a marketplace roll-up platform, acquiring direct-to-consumer (D2C) brands and leveraging its expertise to scale them effectively. Currently, the company manages approximately 19 subsidiaries under its portfolio.
In FY23, GOAT Brand Labs reported a significant surge in revenue, amounting to Rs 139.6 crore, marking a 746% increase from Rs 16.5 crore in FY22. However, the firm’s losses also widened by 158% to Rs 80.28 crore in FY23 compared to Rs 31 crore in the previous fiscal year.
Rishi Vasudev, co-founder of GOAT Brand Labs, expressed optimism about achieving a profitable revenue exceeding Rs 500 crore ARR (Annual Recurring Revenue) within the next 9-12 months.
Prior to this round, GOAT Brand Labs had raised a total of $87 million. Tiger Global, Flipkart, and Mayfield India are among the significant stakeholders, according to startup data intelligence platform TheKredible.
The e-commerce roll-up sector witnessed a decline in funding activities in recent years compared to the robust period of 2021-22. Despite challenges, players like Mensa Brands and GlobalBees have continued to secure funding, underscoring ongoing investor interest in the space.
Internationally, Amazon aggregator Thrasio recently emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy and appointed Stephanie Fox as its CEO, signaling resilience and strategic shifts within the aggregator model.
With the latest funding round, GOAT Brand Labs is poised to strengthen its market position and further expand its footprint in the competitive landscape of e-commerce roll-up platforms, aiming to capitalize on the growing demand for D2C brands globally.
