Google announced a collaboration with MeitY Startup Hub during the Google I/O Summit in Bengaluru, revealing plans to train 10,000 Indian startups in artificial intelligence (AI).
The initiative aims to equip businesses with mentorship, expertise, and essential skills through platforms like Appscale Academy and Startup School, focusing on AI-first programming and curriculum development.
Ambharish Kenghe, Vice President of Google, emphasized the company’s commitment to supporting startups and developers in tackling real-world challenges. He highlighted enhancements to existing programs, such as Startup School and AppScale Academy, which are being restructured to prioritize AI technologies.
As part of the initiative, Google will provide startups with up to $350,000 in Google Cloud credits to facilitate investment in cloud computing infrastructure crucial for AI development and deployment.
In an exclusive interaction with AIM, Google’s General Manager and Vice President, Chem Golberg, expressed admiration for India’s innovative startup ecosystem, noting the significant growth achieved by local startups.
Kenghe also announced upcoming events including a nationwide Gen AI Hackathon, an AI startup boot camp, and a three-month immersive experience in collaboration with MeitY Startup Hub and Startup India, scheduled between August and October.
For developers, Google introduced new tools such as Google Wallet APIs to streamline integration of gift cards, tickets, and loyalty programs. Additionally, Google announced India-specific pricing for the Google Maps Platform, offering up to 70% lower costs on most APIs. To support developers working on the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), Google is providing up to 90% discounts on select Google Maps Platform APIs, aiming to enhance affordability and accessibility.
The initiatives underscore Google’s efforts to foster innovation and empower Indian startups in leveraging AI technologies for sustainable growth and development.
