Quick commerce platform Zepto has promoted Devendra Meel to the post of Chief Business Officer (CBO) to lead in category management, grow brand partnerships, and manage pricing, with effect from July 2024.
Co-founder Aaditya Palicha commended Meel’s contribution in a press release, stating that he accounted for hundreds of crores in revenue, and took Zepto Pass end-to-end from scratch to 5 million subscribers.
Meel also shared insights regarding his new role, “Having a front-row seat in a company poised to redefine Internet India is the opportunity of a lifetime. I am deeply committed to this mission and will bring all my energy and dedication to it.” He added that Zepto’s fast-moving meritocratic environment offers high-stakes challenges that hold the potential for 10X career growth.
The promotion is a stepping stone to Zepto’s commitment to promote internal talent and innovation. Meel brought experience to the quick commerce company as he had managed special programmes at Zomato and Reliance Jio prior to joining Zepto over a year ago.
Zepto is a rapidly growing quick commerce company, with delivery channels spread across the country to provide groceries and other daily essentials in minutes. Its major competitors in the sector are Blinkit and Swiggy Instamart.
The Mumbai-based company claims to have a positive EBITDA with 140% YoY growth and annual gross merchandise value being $1 billion, along with 75% of its stores being fully EBITDA positive recorded May 2024. Notable, the company had recently bagged funds worth $665 million at a valuation of $3.6 billion.
