Why Electric cars are becoming noisier in the EU?

Safety is what each one of us deserves and should always get. Driving with precautions is what we all need to learn and spread awareness about. The electric cars in Europe have been designed keeping safety in mind and have come up with the new law of protection which everyone should abide while driving.

Electrical vehicles or electric cars are designed to make driving easy and beneficial for drivers and pedestrians. In an Electrical vehicle, a sound is created by cars to alert the pedestrians on the road.

The vehicles today have different forms of updated technology acquainted with it, the electrical vehicle sound system does the same for us!

“Warning sound devices were deemed necessary by some government regulators because vehicles operating in all-electric mode produce less noise than traditional combustion engine vehicles and can make it more difficult for pedestrians, the blind, cyclists, and others, to be aware of their presence”.

Thus this sound will help the people around the road to be aware and alert about the vehicles.

The acoustic learning system is a major taken up by the government which makes a continuous noise of at least 56 decibels if the car’s going 20 km/h (12 mph) or slower.
The specifications for an Acoustic Vehicle Alert System warning sound that electric and hybrid vehicles will have to emit starting in the summer of 2019 are fairly general. Although playing a musical piece is not allowed, the nature of the sound with which individual approaching vehicles will warn pedestrians is being left up to manufacturers.

The European Parliament has made it mandatory for all the vehicles to get equipped with the acoustic vehicle alerting system. However, the sounds can have a certain negative effect on emotional response and acceptance, which should be considered by manufacturers.
In 2011 the European Commission drafted a guideline for Acoustic Vehicle Alerting Systems

Why do electric cars need to be noisier

  • The main aim of those heavy sound is to protect all the pedestrians
  • It will highly benefit the physically challenged people and help them with more convenient travelling and crossing
  •  In order to make its roads safer — especially its narrow city streets
  • It helps in preventing and stopping your vehicle also giving you alert at the measured distance
  • It will not only moderate you’re driving but also count on your speed.

The EU’s Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System law stipulates that electric cars will need to emit a sound of at least 56 decibels. The sound should rise and fall according to whether the vehicle is accelerating or decelerating. In Europe, the warning sounds are required for e-vehicles travelling at speeds of 20 kilometres per hour or less. The sound created by the tires on the road surface is considered adequate for vehicles travelling at higher speeds.

Conclusion

The electric car safety is given prime importance and is been adopted by many countries. It will not only intimate people about new technology but also save many accidents and life. The U.S. too has a similar law coming into effect in 2020. “More and more cars with automatic pedestrian detection will be coming onto the market for the safety and security of driving with e-vehicles. Various big companies plan to create their own sound system which will highlight its characteristics and give them business. Surveys say gone is the time when we had to be quiet it’s time to get louder again!
