The Boring Company in talks for building underground tunnel in Tesla Gigafactory Texas

The news of building a tunnel under Tesla’s Gigafactory Texas, by Elon Musk’s The Boring Company came out on June 21, 2022, after TBC made an application for a building permit. The application does not clearly state Tesla’s intention of building the tunnel, reports Electrek.

TBC recently moved its headquarters to Pflugerville, northeast of Austin, after which the company has been constantly in talks with various projects in Texas. Perhaps Musk wants a covert path to access his massive facility since the “Colorado River Connector Tunnel” project includes a “private access tunnel along with other enhancements.” Or perhaps he is seeking a covert means to move between businesses.

The “loop” in Las Vegas is the primary undertaking of The Boring Company. A Boring Company loop is a network of tunnels in which Tesla electric vehicles transport passengers between stations to avoid surface traffic. This system is similar to a subway system but uses smaller vehicles that may stop anywhere.

The city of Kyle, which is south of Austin, gave TBC permission in May to start feasibility studies on an underground pedestrian tunnel that would connect a retail development with a housing development nearby.
