Matt Renner, president of global sales at Google Cloud, highlighted India’s pivotal role as a hub for global startups and a key market for Google Cloud during his recent visit. Renner emphasized Google Cloud’s commitment to doubling down on investments specifically tailored for startups in India this fiscal year.
“In India, among select global markets, we see immense potential and are intensifying our focus,” Renner stated. “India’s innovation prowess, particularly in artificial intelligence (AI), presents a significant opportunity. With our AI expertise and robust tools, we aim to collaborate closely with Indian startups to drive AI innovation forward.”
During his visit to Bengaluru, Renner engaged with startup founders across diverse industries, pledging discounts and credit incentives to facilitate their adoption of Google Cloud services. Google Cloud currently operates two major data centers in India, underscoring its infrastructure readiness to support local enterprises.
Renner’s itinerary also includes meetings in Mumbai, where he plans to engage further with Google Cloud customers and stakeholders.
India’s ambitions in digital public goods (DPG) and digital public infrastructure (DPI) were also highlighted, with collaborations underway with the EkStep Foundation based in Bengaluru. Bikram Singh, vice president and country managing director at Google Cloud India, underscored the accelerated deployment of these solutions to enhance user experiences domestically and potentially globally.
Singh emphasized Google Cloud’s robust hiring initiatives in India, particularly focusing on customer-facing roles and engineering talent pivotal for product innovation and collaboration with key Indian enterprises like HDFC Bank, Jio Platforms, Adani Group, and Mahindra Group.
Renner noted that a significant quarter of Google Cloud’s developers are based in India, leveraging the country’s vibrant developer community, which ranks second globally on GitHub with 15.4 million developers.
The strategic focus on India underscores Google Cloud’s commitment to nurturing innovation and driving digital transformation across sectors in one of the world’s fastest-growing economies.
