Everything you need to know about Zuckerberg’s METAVERSE Project and HORIZON Workspace

Our overarching goal across all of these initiatives is to help bring the metaverse to life, Mark Zuckerberg Says.  At the end of June’21, Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Facebook, announced about his new initiative that focuses on building a new world for the users, known as “metaverse.”

What is “metaverse”?

“Metaverse” can be simply translated as “having a moment.” It enables the users to live in a moment of virtual-reality space, wherein they can interact with one another in an environment that is fully computer-generated but feels much real. It is like playing video games with your friends, given that you all are in the same place performing the actions. The term “metaverse” finds its origin back to a 1992 sci-fi novel named ‘Snow Crash’ by Neal Stephenson.

Roles to be played by Zuckerberg’s “metaverse”

  • Zuckerberg’s metaverse is to focus on building a more maximalist version of the social media app Facebook.
  • For content creators and artists, the metaverse would bring a plethora of opportunities to expand their creativity and explore their tech-aesthetic temperament.
  • According to Zuckerberg, his metaverse could work out to be much like a teleportation device, bringing in excitement alongside entertainment.
  • Moreover, the CEO claims metaverse to be a “successor to the mobile internet.” Such a comment would definitely make us roll our eyes but how about you actually living inside the content you are viewing via a web browser? Yes, it is much fascinating and seems something of another level.
  • So far, people were able to access virtual reality through a selected range of devices which required heavy installation charges or were simply so costly that they were out of the reach of common man. Zuckerberg in his new initiative promises to make his metaverse accessible through PCs and mobile phones.
  • Metaverse could create more job opportunities in fields which were so far not required or did not exist at all. People would learn new technologically advanced operations and earn a living out of it.

How far can Zuckerberg’s “metaverse” succeed?

All the features and initiatives incorporated with Facebook escalates along with new variations to result into Zuckerberg’s fascinating METAVERSE. In today’s world, where people are restricted quite often into their domestic spaces and much away from their workspace, it seems like Zuckerberg’s vision could work out for the better. The metaverse has not yet come into effect but we can get a glimpse into its working through something that’s called “Workspace.”

How does VR Workspace operate?

We’ve stated that metaverse aims at providing a common environment in which users can connect to one another. This becomes an important criterion when it comes to employees in an office. The Workrooms form a part of an umbrella project named HORIZON. The Horizon workrooms operate according to Zuckerberg’s vision of a metaverse.
For instance, it is possible to bring together the two worlds together – the outside and the inside, with just a VR. Up to 16 people wearing a VR can be accommodated into a Workroom with additional 34 people joining over video calls without headset of any kind.

Avatars of each participant can be made to interact with one another, just like we do in a real space. But the smooth running of the Workroom has not yet been ensured. There are frequent glitches that are to be corrected and features that are to be improvised according to their usefulness. The Workrooms form a part of an umbrella project named HORIZON.

One has to accept that the metaverse universe is a much-advanced way of interacting with people residing in far off places, if compared to the social media apps. However, with technology comes the darker side of it too. There are many questions that are constantly raised against social media apps related to spreading misinformation or serving as a distraction for the children.

Similarly, when it comes to metaverse, the questions and complaints is to get escalated. But in order to pave way for something big, one has to take criticisms. That is what Mark Zuckerberg seems to be ready for as he in his interview to The Vergecast says, “So I’m really looking forward to helping to play some role in building out this next chapter for the internet.”
