Our world has never been the same since the massive pandemic which infected millions around the globe in 2019- the COVID-19 pandemic.
This pandemic caused by the SARS-COV2 virus has been haunting mankind for about 3 years now ebbing and evolving into multiple “waves” which have claimed many lives. Several people lost their loved ones, economies crashed, and the world as we knew it almost came to a stop with people locked away in their homes.
We all can agree that the COVID-19 pandemic has made different landmarks of memories in different lives. While the world witnessed media and news outlets plagued with news of both kinds, the good and the bad. On some channels, we saw quarantined colonies of people unifying to defend themselves against the deadly virus. On several others, we saw an equal crowd losing their lives on air due to respiratory distress which went unaddressed due to a severe shortage of basic supplies like oxygen respirators and even hospital beds to accommodate the huge morbid population.
Despite this massacre and chaos caused by the small RNA virus, Bill Gates, the Microsoft CEO and former richest man on Earth has gone on to say that mankind got lucky with the virus.
According to a recent report by the World Health Organization(WHO), which says that the disease was responsible for almost 15 million deaths Gates’s statement does come as a slight shock.
The CEO of Microsoft has gone to defend his statement by saying that the death rate of this virus was just 0.2 percent, which “scientifically” can be considered to be far too meager as compared to other potent pandemic-causing viruses in the past such as the Spanish Flu. Gates believes if indeed the potency or virulence of the COVID virus had been more, maybe the number of people who lost their lives would have gotten way out of hand.
Another Pandemic – Can it happen?
Gates has even exclaimed his belief that the COVID-19 pandemic could be followed by another global morbidity event caused by a virus as virulent as the COVID virus but with a more fatality rate.
Gates has even gone on to claim that the survivors of this current pandemic could live long enough to see another one as the chances are pretty high.
This can be attributed to the extensive amount of climate change leading to the melting of polar ice caps in the Antarctic region under which several mutant organisms were trapped for centuries.
Another reason can be the advancements in science which can be exploited wrongfully to promote biological warfare. More nations might be funding secret research to make a “deadly and dangerous” virus to wipe out rivals from the face of the Earth.
Gates claimed that the chances of another Pandemic happening in our lifetime are as high as 50 percent.
Statistics do say that a great pandemic like the Spanish flu which claimed almost a million lives happens only once every 100 years. But in recent studies and data according to the studies of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) the USA has seen pandemic level influenza outbreaks in 1957-58 and then again 9 years later 1968 and most recently in 2009.
The claims of the Microsoft CEO are not at all bizarre and with a virus that can spread so easily, coupled with the advent of biological warfare and stealth technology to deliver said “weapons” he might be warning us about an even more difficult period of time that lies ahead given that the new virus could be even deadlier.
