An outage on Tesla’s server caused to go down its mobile app. Many Tesla owners were unable to connect to their vehicles during the outage. Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, has announced that the company’s mobile app is now back online. Musk was responding to a tweet from a Model 3 owner in Seoul, South Korea, who claimed that his Model 3 was not connecting to the iOS app due to a “500 server error”.

Attempting to connect to his Tesla Model 3 via an iPhone app on a South Korean driver led to an error message about a server error.

A customer’s tweet is directly responded to by Elon Musk within three minutes

Elon Musk, who is known to be active on the social network site Twitter, is back online in less than five hours to answer the same customer and share an update.

In the United States and around the world, Tesla owners were unable to connect with their vehicles through the mobile app on Friday. The mobile app outage initially affected customers in the U.S. and Canada but quickly spread across the globe to other countries in Europe and Asia. Some Tesla drivers used Twitter to address Elon Musk directly regarding the problem.

The outage coincided with an upgrade to the company’s mobile app, though no direct connection between the two has been discovered as of yet. In addition to being able to start the vehicle, access various control options, schedule maintenance or assistance, and manage vehicle charging, the Tesla app offers owners various conveniences.

In the event of an interruption of service, ownership might be stranded until connectivity is restored, resulting in a major inconvenience. The Tesla vehicle’s key card or key fob may also be carried by owners to ensure that they can access the vehicle no matter what the app status is.

Tesla owners can prepare in advance for this type of app omission by making sure their phone will still work as a key via the car’s Bluetooth connection, in addition to carrying the vehicle’s key card or key fob. An outage event affecting the Tesla applications and vehicles is not the first time it has happened. During September 2020, the company’s internal and external servers were temporarily unavailable, including order fulfillment, vehicle access, and vehicle maintenance.
