User data storage startup Medront has raised INR 1.06 crore in a pre-seed funding round led by Inflection Point Ventures (IPV). The newly raised capital will be allocated towards product development, growth initiatives, user acquisition, onboarding Data as a Service (DaaS) clients, and covering various operational expenses to enhance user acquisition and retention.
Founded in 2023 by Nitesh Singh and Saurav Suman, Medront Datalabs empowers users with control over their personal data through innovative data pods. The platform provides an alternative for brands against the monopolistic hold of tech giants in the consumer data management space. Medront has already attracted over 20,000 users and secured partnerships with 20 brands, demonstrating its rapid growth and positioning as a key player in the industry.
Nitesh Singh, CEO, is an Electrical Post-Graduate from IIT Bombay with a background in data science. He has previously led CreditMate from its inception to its acquisition by PayTM and held key positions at Citibank and SunEdison. Co-founder and CTO Saurav Suman is a Computer Science graduate from IIT Jodhpur and a seasoned tech entrepreneur, having developed software and data products at companies like Raydar, Voylla, Auronia, DSP, and CreditMate.
Vikram Ramasubramanian, Partner at Inflection Point Ventures, stated, “With the digital world expanding rapidly, securing personal data is more crucial than ever. The implementation of ‘The India Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023’ addresses data processing regulation but lacks clarity on protection and management. Medront offers a comprehensive platform that empowers consumers to manage their data securely and effectively. IPV views digital privacy tools as the next significant trend in technology, leading to our investment in Medront.”
Medront is actively developing data products and integrating extensive APIs with platforms like Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Reddit, Spotify, Gmail, Google Drive, and Evernote. Additionally, it provides Android verification for notifications, SMS, and permissions to ensure a robust data pipeline for its Data Pods. The startup is currently focused on expanding its user base in India and has already launched its Minimum Viable Product (MVP) on the Play Store, achieving a 4.1 rating.
The global Data as a Service (DaaS) market is expected to grow from USD 20.74 billion in 2024 to USD 51.60 billion by 2029, while in India, the market is projected to reach USD 2.17 billion in 2024. This growth is driven by increasing data privacy regulations, the rise of direct-to-consumer business models, and a focus on data monetization and personalization. Medront’s offerings align with this market trend, providing innovative and secure data management solutions.
