US-based venture capital firm General Catalyst has successfully raised $8 billion in new capital to fuel its investments across multiple industries, including AI, defense, climate, healthcare, and fintech. Of the total, $4.5 billion will go towards seed and growth equity VC funds, $1.5 billion for creating new companies, and $2 billion for separately managed accounts.
CEO and Managing Partner Hemant Taneja emphasized the firm’s commitment to driving innovation, noting the capital will “turbocharge” investments across key sectors. General Catalyst has recently diversified its portfolio, expanding into healthcare through acquisitions like Summa Health and investments such as the $10 million funding of Indian senior living platform Primus Life.
The firm continues to seek opportunities beyond traditional VC models, merging with India’s Venture Highway and collaborating with Europe’s La Famiglia, all aimed at scaling companies without relying solely on additional growth capital.
