SUMMARY

  • AGNIT Semiconductors has secured $3.5 million in its seed funding round.
  • The round co-led by 3one4 Capital and Zephyr Peacock.
  • Lakshmi Narayanan, an existing investor and former CEO of Cognizant, also participated in the round.

AGNIT Semiconductors has secured $3.5 million or Rs 29.4 crore in its seed funding round co-led by 3one4 Capital and Zephyr Peacock.

This round also attracted the participation of Lakshmi Narayanan, an existing investor and former CEO of Cognizant.

Hareesh Chandrasekar, the co-founder and CEO of AGNIT Semiconductors, stated that the company’s primary focus is on developing its first products for the defense sector. This funding will lay the groundwork for the mass production of these chips in the defense market, which is expected to occur within the next year.

Chandrasekar also mentioned that the company is in the process of developing prototypes for power conversion and telecom applications, aiming to broaden its market reach by focusing on consumer-oriented uses.

The Bengaluru-based startup has stated that it will use the newly raised funds to scale up its production and expand its commercial activities.

The company is set to target the consumer electronics and electric two-wheeler sectors, focusing on addressing the need for fast charging solutions, with a goal of selling 100,000 chips this year.

AGNIT Semiconductors was founded in 2019 by a team of industry experts, including Digbijoy Neelim Nath, Hareesh Chandrasekar, Madhusudan Atre, Mayank Shrivastava, Muralidharan Rangarajan, Shankar Kumar Selvaraja, and Srinivasan Raghavan.

The company specializes in Gallium Nitride (GaN) semiconductor technology, focusing on the design and production of GaN materials (wafers) and electronic components, particularly those designed for radio-frequency applications.

AGNIT Semiconductors is also addressing the challenge of the lengthy development cycle in the semiconductor industry, which typically takes around four years to bring a chip to market.

Through this fundraising, AGNIT Semiconductors aims to invest in its volume production and conduct rigorous quality checks to ensure the reliability of its chips before they are made available to consumers.

Additionally, the company has announced that it has already raised $4.87 million or Rs 41 crore in total.

This investment comes at a juncture when the Indian government is making significant efforts to reduce the country’s dependence on imports and is set to make a significant impact in the global semiconductor market.

Recently, fabless semiconductor startups like FermionIC Design and BigEndian Semiconductors have secured funding from various sources to enhance their product offerings and expand into international markets.

The semiconductor sector is projected to grow to a $150 billion market by 2030, expanding at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 24% from 2023 to 2030.
