The online food delivery platform posted this advisory on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, emphasizing the well-being of its delivery personnel who are working under challenging conditions.
“Please avoid ordering during peak afternoon unless absolutely necessary,” Zomato wrote in its post. The advisory has sparked mixed reactions from the public. Some customers have praised the considerate gesture, acknowledging the harsh conditions faced by delivery workers. Others, however, expressed confusion and concern, particularly those who rely heavily on food delivery services due to living alone.
The heatwave has been particularly intense in Delhi, where residents can expect some relief as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts light rain and thunderstorms for Sunday. The national capital recorded a minimum temperature of 30.4 degrees Celsius this morning, which is 3.5 degrees above the seasonal average. The maximum temperature is anticipated to reach around 43 degrees Celsius.
On Saturday, Delhi experienced even higher temperatures, with the maximum soaring to 44.2 degrees Celsius, 4.2 degrees above the average for this time of year.
As the heatwave continues, Zomato’s request highlights the importance of considering the health and safety of delivery workers. The company’s advisory has brought attention to the difficult conditions faced by those in the service industry, sparking a broader discussion about worker welfare during extreme weather events.
