YouTube Launches Shopping Program in India to Enhance Creator Earnings

On Friday, YouTube announced the debut of its Shopping affiliate program in India, providing a new way for content creators to get paid by tagging products in their videos. The program, which enables qualified producers to incorporate Flipkart and Myntra products into their videos, is a component of YouTube’s larger national e-commerce effort, which capitalizes on the expanding trends of online shopping.

Creators can profit from suggestions made in regular videos, shorts, and live streams through the affiliate program they will also get paid when viewers click on tagged items and make purchases. The affiliate model enhances YouTube’s range of revenue-generating possibilities, including ad revenue and premium subscriptions, by enabling creators to market their own products by connecting their stores to their channels.

“India’s robust growth in video content and e-commerce makes this a natural step. The new affiliate programme creates further potential for product discovery, driven by the trusted connections between creators and their audiences”, stated Youtube’s General Manager of Shopping, Travis Katz.

Ravi Iyer, Senior Vice President and Head-Corporate Development and Strategic Partnerships at Flipkart, stated, “To make shopping engaging and personalised and empower customers to make informed purchase decisions, we have pioneered video commerce on our platforms, covering a variety of categories, including fashion, beauty, personal care, home furnishing and more, with strong engagement with customers across tier 2 and 3 cities. Using the YouTube Shopping Affiliate Program, we aim to further boost the experience and engagement of customers using Flipkart and Myntra by enabling product discovery through videos by creators on YouTube.”

YouTube stated that it intends to extend agreements to additional sites, while Flipkart and Myntra are the original partners. Flipkart views this program as a means of enhancing product discovery through the recommendations of reliable creators. Flipkart has been using video commerce to interact with customers in both smaller villages and metropolis.

Eligible creators who successfully complete the YouTube Studio registration process are eligible for the program. After enrolling, creators have the ability to tag products in both new and pre-existing videos, and they can choose to include these tags in livestreams.
