Quick commerce company Swiggy Instamart has appointed Sairam Krishnamurthy as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Senior Vice President (SVP).
He will now be overseeing the platform’s operating units such as the operations of dark stores, infrastructure, and geographical expansion.
This new appointment is a part of the Bengaluru-based company’s recent exercises to strengthen its leadership contingent. Himavant Srikrishna Kurnala was appointed SVP of product and business, Mayank Rajvaidya was appointed VP of fruits & vegetables, Aakash Bhotika as VP of technical advisor, and Manu Sasidharan as Associate VP of the FMCG category.
Krishnamurthy’s appointment as one of the leaders in the company has brought along a decorated career with 18 years of experience in the capacity of leadership in FMCG, consumer tech, and retail. He previously served as COO and Chief Merchandising Officer (CMO) of the supermarket firm More Retail. The supermarket firm runs an offline retail store chain and is an Amazon company through a joint venture with Samara Capital.
The new COO was formerly a part of Ola Mobility as India’s Supply Head and worked in several roles across sales, marketing, and innovation at Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL) for 14 years.
“I am thrilled to join team Swiggy in a business that I believe represents the future of grocery retail. As an ardent consumer turned operator, I am energized by the opportunity to drive profitable growth for Swiggy Instamart. I look forward to collaborating with the team to unlock the immense potential of the business and lead it into the next phase of growth,” said Krishnamurthy.
IPO-bound Swiggy’s quick commerce vertical Swiggy Instamart is spread across 33 cities in India at present. As a quick commerce platform, it delivers grocery and other daily essentials spanning over 20 categories in around 10 minutes, with Zepto and Zomato’s Blinkit being its prominent contenders.
