Stripe, the renowned US payments giant, has announced a transition to an invite-only model for its services in India. The move comes amidst the company’s efforts to bolster its infrastructure to accommodate a larger user base by the latter half of 2025.
While Stripe has not provided explicit details regarding the shift, it cited the evolving regulatory environment in India as a key factor. The company acknowledged challenges in ensuring seamless onboarding for all new users in the country at present.
Earlier speculations arose regarding Stripe‘s potential acquisition of a significant stake in SBI Payments, the payments arm of the State Bank of India. However, Stripe promptly refuted these reports.
Stripe‘s decision to adopt an invite-only approach reflects its strategic response to navigate the dynamic regulatory landscape in India while prioritising the scalability and efficiency of its services for future expansion.
