Pine Labs Cleared to Move Singapore Operations to India

Pine Labs, a leading merchant platform, has received approval from a Singapore court to transfer its operations from the city-state to India, as reported by TechCrunch citing a regulatory filing.

This strategic move involves merging its Singapore and India entities, effectively consolidating assets and resources.

The regulatory filing indicates that this transfer will enable Pine Labs to “achieve business synergies and more economies of scale,” which are expected to enhance the firm’s operational efficiency. This move aligns Pine Labs with other prominent Indian startups like Meesho, Razorpay, Udaan, and PhonePe, which have also relocated their overseas branches back to India.

An investor specializing in Indian companies informed TechCrunch that this trend may be driven by the fact that companies with valuations below US$20 billion receive less analyst coverage in developed markets, leading to lower demand from institutional investors. Conversely, in India, tech companies often attract more capital due to the high demand for their services.

Valued at over US$5 billion, it is supported by notable investors including Peak XV, Temasek, and PayPal. In 2022, the company expanded its footprint by acquiring Singapore-based fintech firm Fave in a US$45 million deal.

This strategic relocation is expected to bolster Pine Labs’ position in the competitive fintech market, leveraging India’s robust demand for technological services to drive growth and innovation.
