Fintech major PhonePe has named Manish Sabharwal as its independent director and audit committee chair. The company shared that Sabharwal will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of PhonePe’s financial statements, internal controls, and risk management strategies.
Sabharwal, who currently holds the position of Vice-Chairman at staffing and human capital firm Teamlease Services, is involved in several policy-making bodies related to education, employment, and employability.
He has previously served as an Independent Director on the Board of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and is a member of the Advisory Board for the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) and the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER).
Additionally, Sabharwal is the Managing Trustee of the New India Foundation, which provides scholarships for authors writing about post-1947 India, and contributes as a columnist for The Indian Express. He pursued his MBA from The Wharton School and is also a graduate of Shriram College, Delhi and Mayo College, Ajmer.
PhonePe has also announced that Flipkart Co-founder Binny Bansal has resigned from its Board of Directors. Since Binny’s acquisition of PhonePe in 2016, he has been a member of its Board.
