PhonePe, the digital payments platform backed by Walmart, announced on Thursday its foray into secured lending products by partnering with a diverse network of banks, non-banking financial companies (NBFCs), and fintech firms.
The platform’s expansive user base of 535 million registered users will now have access to a wide array of lending solutions directly within the PhonePe app. These offerings span six major categories, including mutual fund loans, bike loans, car loans, home loans, gold loans, and education loans.
PhonePe has forged partnerships with esteemed lenders such as Tata Capital, L&T Finance, Hero FinCorp, Muthoot Fincorp, and several others. The platform plans to further expand its network by adding more lenders in the upcoming weeks, aiming to scale up to 25 active partners by the next quarter.
Users can seamlessly apply for loans through the existing ‘Loan‘ section within the PhonePe app, where they can select their preferred loan category and choose from a curated list of lenders. The loan application process will be initiated and facilitated entirely within the PhonePe app, eliminating the need to navigate through multiple applications and streamlining the process for users.

Vivek Chopra, COO – of Retail Finance at Tata Capital, reiterated the partnership’s focus on broadening the accessibility of lending services to PhonePe’s vast user base. He emphasized Tata Capital’s digital-first approach and its endeavor to enhance credit penetration across India through strategic collaborations.
