More than 73.7 lakh names have been removed from Gujarat’s draft electoral roll following the completion of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), the state’s Chief Electoral Officer Harit Shukla said on Friday.
According to the official statement, Gujarat’s electoral roll now stands at about 4.34 crore voters after the revision exercise, which began on October 27. The deletions were made after enumeration forms were not received from certain individuals despite repeated verification efforts and coordination with Booth Level Officers, Booth Level Agents and representatives of recognised political parties.
Authorities carried out extensive door-to-door verification to identify voters who had died, permanently migrated, were enrolled at multiple locations or could not be traced during the survey. Shukla said the entire enumeration process has been fully digitised to improve accuracy and transparency.
A detailed breakup showed that of the 73,73,327 deleted names, over 18 lakh belonged to deceased voters, around 40.25 lakh to those who had permanently shifted, nearly 9.7 lakh to absent voters, about 3.8 lakh to duplicate registrations and the rest to other categories.
Eligible voters can file claims or objections seeking inclusion, correction or deletion of entries until January 18, 2026. All claims will be verified and disposed of by February 10, with the final electoral roll scheduled for publication on February 17, 2026.
The draft rolls have been displayed at polling stations, designated centres and on the Chief Electoral Officer’s website, and shared with political parties as part of the process overseen by the Election Commission of India.
