On Thursday, Ola Electric introduced its ‘Roadster’ lineup, marking its advance into electric motorcycles, starting at a price tag of Rs 74,999.

These electric bikes come in three models: Roadster, Roadster X, and Roadster Pro, each featuring various sub-models.

At the company’s ‘Sankalp 2024’ event, CEO Bhavish Aggarwal announced that the Roadster Pro would hit the market in Diwali 2022, with Roadster X and Roadster models launching in January 2025.

The Roadster Pro, with a 3.5kWh battery, is set at Rs 1.04 lakhs, the 4.5kWh model at Rs 1.19 lakhs, and the 6kWh version at Rs 1.39 lakhs, with deliveries expected to start in the fourth quarter. The Roadster X series offers more affordable options: the 2.5kWh model starts at Rs 74,000, the 3.5kWh at Rs 85,000, and the 4.5kWh at Rs 99,000.

During the unveiling, Bhavish Aggarwal, the Managing Director and Chairman of Ola Electric, highlighted the company’s position as the fifth-largest in terms of market capitalisation among global EV companies.

He said, “Today, we will reveal the future of our business across three companies and three distinct segments. Our ambition for the Ola Consumer business is to provide affordable, efficient, and accessible ride experiences across India.”

Aggarwal also stated, “In terms of revenue, we are now the fourth-largest EV company in the world. Never underestimate the Indian consumer; they are eager to embrace the future and be a part of it. We are turning our PM’s vision for energy sustainability into a reality. Tesla is for the west, Ola is for the rest.”

He announced, “We’re developing the next generation of battery technology with our 4680 cell, which we’re proudly calling the ‘BharatCell’—the first cell to be built in India. We’ve filed over 70 patents for this 4680 cell, and it will be integrated into our scooters by Q1 FY26. Manufacturing this cell in India is the holy grail for the EV industry.”

Aggarwal teased the launch by sharing a video of himself on the new electric motorcycle. Since then, Ola Electric has been building excitement through social media, setting the stage for the reveal.

Ola Electric, which introduced its first electric scooter in 2021, has quickly established itself as a leader in the electric two-wheeler market, generating the highest revenue among its competitors in India, as reported by Redseer.

The company has been preparing for the bike launch for quite some time. A year prior, Ola unveiled four concept electric motorcycle models: Diamondhead, Adventure, Roadster, and Cruiser.

However, the electric motorcycle segment poses a greater challenge, as these vehicles currently account for a small percentage of the overall bike sales in India. Despite this, Ola Electric is determined to make a mark in the market with its new offering.

In recent news, it was reported that Ola Electric had put its plans for an electric car on hold to focus more on bikes and scooters.

On August 14, the stock of Ola Electric, which recently went public, saw fluctuations, dropping by over 7% in the early hours of trading before recovering to close 2.61% higher at Rs 110.99 on the NSE.

Ola Electric raised over Rs 6,000 crore through its initial public offering and made a strong debut on August 9, with its stock soaring 20% on August 12.
