US-based AI chip manufacturer NVIDIA has initiated the delivery of its latest chip GH200 AI to Indian companies looking to establish AI-cloud infrastructure in the country, in the likes of Tata Communications, and Jio Platforms. The move follows NVIDIA Managing Director of South Asia, Vishal Dhupar’s statement made earlier in March, expressing interest in partnering with more Indian companies through its AI solutions.
The chip is designed for AI, high-performance computing, and data analytics. NVIDIA partnered with Tata Group and Reliance in September 2023 to produce AI-powered supercomputers, AI clouds, and generative applications. Its products are crucial to the development of AI apps such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT and the training of large language models (LLM).
A.S. Lakshminarayan, Tata Communications MD and CEO, has stated that the AI Cloud with NVIDIA will be fully launched by the third quarter of the ongoing financial year.
Reports suggest that the Indian Government is also planning to procure Graphics Processing Units (GPU) from the chip giant for its AI mission models- rent & sublet, and marketplace method, to provide AI computing infrastructure to companies.
Niranjan Hiranandani-backed Yotta Data Services has already procured 16000 chips from NVIDIA.
Dhupar commented on the competition from Intel and AMD in the AI compute infrastructure space stating that the company prioritises solving “hard problems” for India through its technology and these collaborations. He added, “The company was not chasing market share but was focused on creating new markets which would help the economy.”
