Nitin Gadkari Says India Will Get a ‘Flying Bus’- Here’s What He Revealed

Speaking during the high-profile inauguration of the new Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari announced ambitious state plans to introduce an electricity-powered aerial transit system to revolutionize public transportation. Pointing directly to the central government’s ongoing transition toward low-emission, high-efficiency municipal infrastructure, the minister emphasized that resolving heavy metropolitan congestion requires embracing next-generation mobility platforms. Describing the scope of these upcoming technological innovations, Gadkari stated, “Now I am going to bring a bus that flies in the air”.

The milestone event, which was also attended by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, celebrated the completion of the ₹4,200 crore, 63-kilometer-long access-controlled expressway. This major infrastructural asset is designed to reduce regional transit times from over three hours down to just forty minutes.

According to ministry officials, the proposed aerial transit project aligns with a broader national development strategy promoting sustainable alternatives such as cable cars and electric mass corridors. While concrete implementation schedules and aviation-grade safety guidelines remain unspecified, the administration seeks to construct seamless urban grids. Industry analysts state that commercial viability will ultimately rely on advanced civil aviation certifications and dedicated terminal construction.
