Nazara Acquires 15.86% Stake in E-Sports Startup Stan for $2.2 Million

Nazara, a gaming and sports media company has purchased a 15.86% share in Stan, which is a blockchain-based e-sports fan engagement startup, for a total financial payment of up to $2.2 million. A UK-based gaming firm called Fusebox Games Ltd. was purchased by Nazara Technologies last month for an all-cash sum of Rs. 27.2 million. Nazara stated in a stock exchange filing that the acquisition enhances its standing in the gaming and e-sports industries.

Stan, a web-based platform that allows creators to create and monetize communities, was founded in 2022 by Chadha, Rahul Singh, Nauman Mulla, and Shubham Gupta. The platform allows users to interact with their favorite gaming creators through digital collectibles, chat, or audio rooms. The firm raised $2.27 million in January 2024 from the Maelstrom Fund, Aptos Labs, and other sources. Having raised $2.5 million in its seed round in May 2022, with General Catalyst and other investors leading the way. The firm claims to have over 12 million users and $1.8 million in revenue as of March 31, 2024.

Operating revenue for Nazara decreased by 6.06% from Rs 266.2 crore in Q4 FY24 to Rs 250 crore in Q1 FY25. The gaming division accounted for 37.11% of the company’s overall operating revenue, while ad tech contributed 10.26%. E-sports constituted 52.73% of this revenue.

Over the last few months, Nazara has completed several transactions, such as purchasing the IP rights of Ultimate Teen Patti, acquiring the assets of DeltiasGaming, and acquiring Paper Boat Apps, the developer of Kiddopia.
