Meta has commenced the rollout of its AI chatbot, Meta AI, to users in India via its applications WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger, as well as a dedicated website at Meta.AI.
This deployment follows the initial launch in countries such as Australia, Canada, and New Zealand over two months ago. The delayed rollout in India is speculated to be due to the Lok Sabha elections.
Meta AI is integrated across searches on Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger. Users can access insights from Meta AI while scrolling through posts on Facebook. The AI assistant provides real-time search results from Microsoft and Google, enabling users to get real-time information for tasks like trip planning or finding the least crowded routes.
The capabilities of Meta AI include performing basic tasks such as writing emails, creating poems, summarizing texts, translating between languages, and generating images and GIFs within the chat window. Unlike other AI assistants, Meta AI’s features are accessible directly from popular apps like WhatsApp and Messenger, eliminating the need for a separate app like ChatGPT or Gemini.
Despite the announced rollout, some users have reported that Meta AI is not yet visible on their WhatsApp, Instagram, or Facebook across various devices. The Meta AI website also displays a message stating “Meta AI is not yet available in your country,” indicating a phased rollout approach.
In related news, a record 3.6 crore Indians visited a single platform in one day for General Election Results, reinforcing India’s position as a critical market for digital platforms.
