On October 17, 2024, Meta, in collaboration with the Indian government, launched a two-month-long safety campaign called ‘Scam se Bacho‘, aimed at educating people about how to protect themselves from online scams. The initiative, launched in partnership with key government bodies like the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB), and the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), comes in response to the rising cases of online fraud in India.

During the launch event, Sanjay Jaju, Secretary of Information and Broadcasting, delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the importance of digital safety in an era where India has become a global leader in digital growth, driven by initiatives like Digital India and UPI transactions. He highlighted that, while India has over 900 million Internet users, the nation also reported 1.1 million cyber fraud cases in 2023, necessitating stronger measures to combat these threats.

The ‘Scam se Bacho’ campaign, which reflects a whole-of-government approach, aims to empower citizens with the tools and knowledge to protect themselves from online scams. By leveraging Meta’s global expertise, the campaign will provide digital literacy resources, enabling people to safeguard their digital presence from cybercriminals.
