Medak Police Arrest Husband and Mother-in-Law Following Pregnant Woman’s Suicide

Law enforcement authorities in the Medak district of Telangana have initiated criminal proceedings following the tragic death of a 23-year-old pregnant woman. The deceased, identified as Sushmita, was five months pregnant and had been married to her husband, G Abhilash, for approximately 18 months. Following a formal complaint lodged by the victim’s family, police recovered the body from her residence in Gadipeddapur village within the Alladurg mandal.

According to statements provided to investigators by the victim’s mother, Janabai, the household had been marred by persistent physical and mental harassment stemming from unfounded suspicions regarding fidelity. The conflict escalated severely on June 23 during a family visit intended to organize a traditional baby shower ceremony. During this encounter, Abhilash openly questioned the paternity of the unborn child and demanded a DNA test. While local community elders initially intervened to mediate, the psychological distress reportedly continued unabated until she was found dead two days later.

“We arrested her husband, G Abhilash, and his mother. They were produced before the magistrate and sent to judicial remand,” stated Alladurg police station Sub-Inspector D Shankar. Officials registered the case under Sections 85, 108, and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
