The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Delhi Police has arrested Amit Bansal, a key vendor involved in the BharatPe fraud case, on August 6.
Bansal was presented before a court, which subsequently placed him under police custody for six days. The remand period is being served at the EOW office on Mandir Marg, New Delhi, with a scheduled court appearance on Monday.
The EOW had earlier filed an FIR against BharatPe co-founder Ashneer Grover, his wife Madhuri Jain, and other family members, including Deepak Gupta, Suresh Jain, and Shwetank Jain, in connection with an Rs 81-crore fraud. The investigation revealed that Bansal, along with his brother, was linked to 33 non-existent vendors involved in fraudulent transactions.
In addition to the ongoing criminal case, BharatPe’s parent company, Resilient Innovations, has filed a fresh case against Ashneer Grover for disclosing confidential information related to the company’s Series E fundraising on social media. The fintech firm has accused Grover and his family of causing substantial financial losses through illegitimate payments to fake HR consultants, inflated vendor payments, fraudulent GST transactions, and other illicit activities.
The investigation continues, with the EOW focusing on uncovering the full extent of the fraudulent operations connected to BharatPe.
