Prateek Mehta, a veteran leader in India’s tech startup ecosystem, has joined South Park Commons (SPC) as its founding partner in India. Mehta, who previously held senior roles at online stockbroking firm Angel One and e-commerce platform Myntra, brings a wealth of experience to SPC, a tech startup community and early-stage venture fund founded in San Francisco.
Mehta, also a co-founder of the fintech platform Scripbox, shared his thoughts on joining SPC via LinkedIn, stating, “As a founder, one seeks high-quality answers to pivotal questions like ‘Why this?’, ‘Why now?’ and ‘Why me?’. SPC’s model provides an intellectually safe and emotionally secure space for founders to explore these questions.”
SPC, founded by Aditya Agarwal and Ruchi Sanghvi, has entered India in collaboration with Flipkart co-founder Binny Bansal. The timing is strategic, as India, the world’s third-largest startup ecosystem, is currently seeing venture funds holding $12 billion in deployable capital.
With over 820 million internet users and more than 100 tech unicorns, SPC’s move to India aligns with its goal of providing a nurturing environment for early-stage founders, technologists, and researchers. SPC focuses on helping them navigate the crucial “pre-idea” stage, similar to a startup incubator.
Founded in 2015, SPC began as a community for technical founders seeking support in their startup journeys, eventually evolving into a venture fund in 2018. SPC has since gained interest from founders in India and the United Kingdom.
