On Thursday, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman encouraged Mexican businesses to seek partnerships with Indian startups and educational institutions, taking full advantage of India’s welcoming business policies.
Speaking at the Tech Leaders Roundtable at the Chamber of Commerce in Guadalajara, Sitharaman highlighted the potential and duties of economies in similar positions, discussing how India and Mexico can work together and benefit from each other’s strengths.
She noted that Mexico has been successful in its approach of nearshoring, leading to partnerships among global corporations and the exchange of expertise, as well as joint efforts in reducing risks.
She mentioned the emerging areas of cooperation and development between India and Mexico, including the announcement of Budget measures for establishing Centers of Excellence (CoEs). She also shared details about the newly identified and announced CoEs in India focusing on AI in health and healthcare, agriculture, and sustainable urban development.
Sitharaman suggested that India and Mexico could collaborate in these fields through joint ventures between startups and academic institutions.
The finance ministry said in a post on X, “The Union Finance Minister highlighted that rapid transformation that has been taking place in India while working towards the goal of #ViksitBharat in 2047.”
“Union Finance Minister Smt. @nsitharaman said that for large economies, the challenges are not just around growth but also to bridge gap and create opportunities for all, and that there is a need for #ResponsibleCapitalism,” it added.
During her trip to the Tata Consultancy Services Headquarters in Latin America, Guadalajara, the finance minister paid tribute to the legendary industrialist Ratan Tata.
On October 9, Ratan Tata, the chairman emeritus and a distinguished industrialist of the Tata Group, passed away at the age of 86.
During her visit till October 20, Sitharaman will engage in a bilateral meeting with her Mexican counterpart Rogelio Ramirez de la O and discuss with various members of the Mexican Parliament to enhance parliamentary cooperation and promote economic growth.
