Flipkart’s Shopsy Enters Kids’ Market with New Collection

Shopsy, Flipkart’s social commerce platform, has officially entered the children’s market with the launch of a summer collection for kids. This strategic move follows the recent appointment of Prathyusha Agarwal as Shopsy’s new CEO, indicating the platform’s intent to expand its offerings and capture a significant share of the rapidly growing children’s segment.

Shopsy now offers a diverse range of products for toddlers and kids aged 0 to 12 years. The platform’s new collection includes apparel, toys, fashion items, and stationery. Popular categories on Shopsy encompass learning toys, kids’ clothing, ethnic wear, soft toys, and school supplies. Among the top-selling items are kids’ combination sets of T-shirts and bottoms, learning toys, and various stationery products.

In the coming months, Shopsy plans to broaden its children’s product line further. The company reports that its kids’ collection is already seeing high demand from tier II cities such as Cuttack, Varanasi, Guwahati, and Muzaffarpur.

“The Indian market is seeing an increasing demand for kids’ products across multiple categories, positioning it as a promising hub for this segment,” stated Kapil Thirani, CEO of Shopsy.

Walmart-backed Flipkart launched Shopsy in 2021 to compete with platforms like Meesho and Amazon Bazaar in categories with low average selling prices, including apparel, small electronics, and kitchenware. Initially designed as a social commerce platform where members shared catalogues via social media and earned commissions on sales, Shopsy has since shifted its focus to driving direct customer purchases.

Shopsy’s entry into the children’s market coincides with a wave of entrepreneurial activity aimed at capitalizing on the sector’s rapid growth. For instance, in January, actor Shilpa Shetty Kundra and fashion consultant Ashmika Sadh introduced Zip Zap Zoom, targeting the kids’ category. Additionally, Bengaluru-based kids’ audio entertainment platform Vobble secured a $1 million seed funding round in March, backed by Lumikai and Blume Founders Fund, among others. Last year, Amazon led a $20 million funding round for kids’ wear company Hopscotch.

By leveraging its extensive platform and the burgeoning demand for children’s products, Shopsy aims to establish itself as a major player in this promising market segment.
