Ecommerce giant Flipkart is looking to broaden its quick commerce service, ‘Flipkart Minutes’ to more cities.
Rajneesh Kumar, Flipkart’s chief corporate affairs officer, shared with the news agency PTI that the company intends to extend Flipkart Minutes to more cities soon. However, he did not specify a timeline for this expansion.
“Customer centricity is critical for us. In cities such as Kolkata, Delhi, Bengaluru and Mumbai, customers are increasingly seeking faster deliveries. We are piloting this service, and (are) already live in Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Delhi,” Kumar stated.
He added that by 2028, India’s overall ecommerce sector is expected to represent 12% of the nation’s total retail market, driven by consumers in urban and semi-urban areas.
These remarks come three months after Flipkart began the pilot of Flipkart Minutes in certain locations of Bengaluru in August, subsequently expanding the service to Delhi NCR in September.
Flipkart’s venture into this segment was a response to the increasing demand of quick commerce services, which have led to the emergence of competitors such as Zomato-owned Blinkit, Swiggy Instamart, Zepto, and Tata-owned BigBasket.
Only two days back, Tata Group’s superapp, Neu, also entered the quick commerce trend with its service called ‘Neu Flash’, promising 15-minute delivery. Amazon India is set to introduce its quick commerce offering named ‘Tez’ in 2025.
This expansion is driven by rising disposable incomes among households and a growing demand for convenience and speed. According to reports, the quick commerce market in India is exto become a $9.95 billion opportunity by 2029.
