A critical discourse regarding the operational culture and public relations strategies within India’s prominent film sectors has emerged following public observations by actor Rakul Preet Singh. Speaking during an industry interview with Bollywood Hungama, the performer contrasted the collaborative dynamics of the Telugu film industry (Tollywood) with the competitive anxieties observed within the Mumbai-based Hindi cinema sector (Bollywood).
Detailing these distinct institutional behaviors, Singh explained that Tollywood maintains a highly unified professional ecosystem. “Filmmakers in Tollywood openly support one another’s films, trailers, and promotional events. They celebrate each other’s successes without hesitation despite competition,” she said. Conversely, she pointed out that the Mumbai sector frequently struggles with internal friction, noting: “Telugu industry is more supportive and United than the Bollywood industry, in Bombay they don’t support each other’s films because of insecurity and jealousy, instead they do negative PR against each other. On the other hand, in the Telugu industry, everybody supports each other’s trailers, movies, & celebrate eachother’ss succe. If Bollywood brings that quality, then we are the strongest on”.
Singh, who entered the entertainment industry through the Kannada feature Gili before making her Hindi debut in the 2014 film Yaariyan, concluded that eliminating antagonistic public relations strategies could significantly strengthen Bollywood’s standing in the global market.
