The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) have finalized a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish specialized Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) processing plants across the national capital. Executed in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the green energy pact provides a dual-purpose ecological and agricultural blueprint intended to systematically process dairy waste generated by 1.25 lakh local cattle.
Under the administrative agreement, livestock farmers will receive a baseline payout of ₹1 per kilogram for cow dung, which will be directed to processing installations in Nangli, Ghoga-Goyla, and Ghazipur to yield clean fuel and organic fertilizer. This decentralized sanitation framework aligns with larger river restoration goals. Shah noted that work has already commenced on roughly 80 localized treatment facilities to process sewage and industrial effluents, stating, “by December 2028, the government would ensure that not a single litre of dirty water enters the Yamuna river.”
The high-level gathering was attended by Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu, and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.
