Actor Ranveer Singh offered special prayers at Mysuru’s historic Chamundeshwari Temple on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, complying with a mandate issued by the Karnataka High Court. The quiet, low-profile visit follows the court’s decision to quash an FIR registered against the actor after he submitted a revised, unconditional written apology for mocking the sacred ‘Chavundi Daiva’ tradition represented in the film Kantara. Justice M. Nagaprasanna had accepted the undertaking, formally directing the actor to complete the pilgrimage within a strict four-week timeline to make amends for his conduct.
The legal controversy erupted following the closing ceremony of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, where Singh delivered an exaggerated imitation of filmmaker Rishab Shetty’s ritualistic performance and erroneously referred to the revered deity as a “ghost”.
Explaining his position in his previous public clarification, Singh stated, “My intention was to highlight Rishabh’s incredible performance in the film. Actor to actor, I know how much it would take to perform that particular scene in the way that he did, for which he has my utmost admiration.” He added, “I have always deeply respected every culture, tradition and belief in our country. If I’ve hurt anyone’s sentiments, I sincerely apologise.”
