CleverTap, the global customer engagement platform, has announced the return of co-founder Sunil Thomas as its CEO, following the departure of Sidharth Malik in July 2024. Malik, who served as the global CEO of the company for three years, stepped down due to personal reasons. The company expressed gratitude for his contributions during his tenure and wished him well in his future endeavors.

Malik, prior to his CEO role at CleverTap, was Chief Revenue Officer at Freshworks and later served as the chairman of Freshworks India. He has since joined Westbridge Capital as a SaaS advisor board member and continues to hold a non-executive director position at Zacco India.

Sunil Thomas, who has been actively involved with CleverTap as its co-founder and executive chairman, takes the helm at a pivotal moment for the company. CleverTap, which raised $105 million in a Series D round led by CDPQ in 2022, is on track to reach unicorn status, having been valued at $775 million during that round.

CleverTap joins a growing list of Indian startups that have appointed new CEOs in 2024, including Cleartrip, Zoomcar, and Freshworks, as the leadership shift continues to shape the Indian startup landscape.
