Anupam Mittal Says Monthly Salaries Should End… Here’s His New Idea

Shaadi.com founder and Shark Tank India judge Anupam Mittal has called for a rethink of traditional salary payment cycles, suggesting that companies should consider paying employees twice a month instead of following what he described as a “British-era next-month payout system.”

In a recent LinkedIn post, Mittal argued that while many organisations promote employee-friendly policies such as flexible work arrangements and additional benefits, timely salary payments often receive less attention. He said delays of even a few days can create financial difficulties for employees managing rent, loan repayments and other monthly obligations.

Reflecting on practices at Shaadi.com, Mittal noted that the company shifted to paying salaries at the end of the current month rather than the following month. According to him, the move was driven by practicality rather than being positioned as a workplace perk.

“Ask the vast majority of India, and they will tell you, Cash flow is dignity,” Mittal wrote. He further proposed salary disbursements on the 15th and 30th of every month, arguing that modern payroll technology makes such systems easier to implement than in the past.

He also suggested that more frequent payments could reduce financial stress, lower dependence on short-term borrowing and encourage consumer spending. “Better cash flow means less stress, fewer debt traps, more spending velocity and ergo, a GDP nudge,” he said.
