Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on Saturday inaugurated a new dairy processing plant in Kolkata built at an investment of nearly ₹700 crore, describing it as one of the world’s largest dairy facilities. The project is expected to significantly strengthen West Bengal’s dairy sector by increasing processing capacity and boosting the incomes of livestock owners and dairy farmers.
According to Shah, the modern plant is equipped with advanced technology and will process more than 10 lakh litres of milk every day. The facility is expected to benefit around 1.20 lakh dairy farmers and livestock rearers by improving procurement, processing and market access.
Sharing the development on social media, Amit Shah wrote, “आज कोलकाता में ₹700 करोड़ की लागत से बनने वाले अमूल के विश्व के सबसे बड़े डेयरी प्लांट का लोकार्पण किया। आधुनिक तकनीक से युक्त इस प्लांट में प्रतिदिन 10 लाख लीटर से अधिक दूध की प्रोसेसिंग होगी, जिससे लगभग 1.20 लाख पशुपालकों और डेयरी किसानों की आय में वृद्धि होगी।”
During the event, Shah also launched the e-RCS portal aimed at digitising cooperative services and witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (Amul) and the Government of West Bengal.
The initiative is expected to strengthen the cooperative dairy ecosystem in the state while improving efficiency, digital governance and market opportunities for farmers.
