Agri biotech startup BioPrime Agrisolutions (BioPrime) has secured $6 million in its Series A funding round, led by Edaphon, with participation from its current investors Omnivore and Inflexor. This investment represents Edaphon’s debut in the Asian market.
In October 2022, the Pune-based agritech managed to gather Rs 9 crore Pre-Series A funding with Inflexor Ventures and Omnivore leading the round.
In addition to Inflexor and Omnivore, BioPrime is backed by BIRAC, DBT, Government of India, Venture Center, NCL Biotech Business Incubator, RICH, Telangana Government, and UnLtd India.
The newly raised funds will be utilised in enhancing BioPrime’s research in the area of crop protection, with a focus on developing new bio fungicides and bioinsecticides.
Established by Renuka Karandikar, Amit Shinde, and Shekhar Bhosle, BioPrime creates affordable agricultural biotechnologies that alter the fundamental physiological responses of plants using small molecules. These solutions enhance plant resilience to pests and diseases, as well as help them withstand environmental challenges like high temperatures, too much water, and drought, among others.
The company aims to introduce its current line of innovative biostimulants in North America, Brazil, and Southeast Asia, with trials currently being conducted in the US.
Moreover, BioPrime intends to further develop and speed up the creation of new products using BioNexus, a patented technology platform that has identified over 170 unique microbial strains from its extensive collection of close to 18,000 strains.
