Fintech startup Getepay has roped in Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag as its investor. The Jaipur-based startup has set up goals to utilize the investments to enhance and expand its global footprints, and payment & digital services to 2.5 million merchants by next year.
As per claims made by the startup, it has secured around Rs 33 crore in funds to date, with Hyderabad Angels, ITI Growth Opportunities Fund, and DBR Ventures LLP as its major investors.
Sehwag commented on the association with the startup, “We at Getepay are building digital offerings, especially for Bharat, which has excited me to be part of this journey.”
Founded in 2016 by Pravin Sharma, Getepay’s services include digital transaction and website solutions for merchants on its platform with its present merchant consumer count being 1.5 million.
With the move, Getepay has followed suit of Indian startups roping in sports personalities as investors, or brand ambassadors, or both. Earlier in April, Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer invested an undisclosed sum in health-tech startup Curelo. D2C wellness brand Hoop and FMCG brand Better Nutrition roped in Indian badminton player PV Sindhu. South African cricketer joined Indian supplement startup Supply6 as an investor and brand ambassador. In 2023, Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Neeraj Chopra, and Hardik Pandya were the prominent names that joined the club.
